Description:
In a professional blind tasting in Hamburg, Germany, the G. 2014 won over all (including the Bordeaux First Growths and the 100 Parker point Pingus). This is a result that only compares with the legendary 1975 Judgement of Paris, where the same happened to some of the Napa Valley wines, today icons out of reach. These wines are treasures that are truly unique, with only a few available throughout the world.

The First Growth of the Cape.
Drawing from the best of the Old and the New World.
Destined to take its place among the greatest wines of the globe.
4G Wine Estate sprung from a crazy idea of four friends who were wine lovers and convinced that it was about time to create a world-class wine from the best terroirs of South Africa. One of the two, Philipp G. Axt was enthralled and gripped by the idea, kept developing it with passion, painstaking attention to detail and an entrepreneurial mindset. With the initial support from legendary Giorgio Dalla Cia, former wine maker of Meerlust in Stellenbosch, the new wine “G.” was born in 2010. The next year, none other than Prof. Denis Dubourdieu, founder and head of the Bordeaux University Institute for the Science of Wine and Viticulture, and consultant to some of the greatest châteaux of France joined the team, alongside his long-time business partner, Dr. Valérie Lavigne.
The mission and goal were clear right from the beginning – to make the first Premier Cru, the first true "grand vin" of the country, a wine that can stand next to the cult wines from Bordeaux, Napa Valley or anywhere else in the world.
Many international blind tastings have proven: G. is since its inception and with every new vintage, actually already part of the very first global league. Stylistically a blend of Bordeaux varietals and Syrah, it changes slightly in composition every year. Bold, complex, and yet elegant, the wine appeals to collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.
Nothing is left to chance in the cellar or the vineyards. A highly professional team works the leased parcels with precision viticulture. In a multi-micro terroir approach, about 20 different plots across the Western Cape are farmed, from some of them only a few rows. The careful selection of the grapes by hand in three steps is another key to success for the wines. Every single berry is checked several times before it lands in the tank.
Philipp G. Axt only settles for the very best, not only with the grapes but when it comes to the selection of barrels in France, the purchase of the best corks in Portugal, the specially manufactured bottles, the wooden cases made from African precious timber, the labels which are created by the Berlin artist Sebastian Blinde. The list goes on.
There is no fancy winery with glittery rhinestones and glamorous fountains.
In a simple concrete cellar, the Flagship G. and his little brother THE ECHO OF G., are awaiting their destiny: to show the wine world that the Cape is very capable of producing wines that line up with the best in the world.
